tastemaker: aerin lauder part one

The New York Times's T Magazine is running a feature by Sandra Ballentine on the uber stylish Aerin Lauder, Senior VP and Creative Director of Estee Lauder, the company her grandmother founded.   Aerin has amazing personal style and wonderful taste  as you can see from some of her picks featured below.  What I really love is how Lauder describes her "off duty" style.   Jeans, a crisp white shirt and a Cartier tank watch.  She's a woman after my own heart!

ballentine reports lauder prefers handwritten notes
boxes that keep her jar jewelry pieces safe

Seems like she's living a pretty great life right?

history lesson

I love stumbling on cool features in local magazines.  Yesterday, as I was surfing the web I found this amazing home featured in Capitol File.  The house, a semidetached row home in Old Town Alexandria (home of my day job!), was completely renovated by owners Cristina and Gregg Rubin with the help of some very talented contractors and painters.

I love the mix of modern updates and historic character.  My favorite features in the home are the red lacquer (I officially have a lacquer obsession) kitchen cabinets and the double fireplace.  I'm curious to know what the outside of the house looks like.  I'll be on the lookout for it! Check out the pics below and read all about the renovation right here on Capitol File's website.

the multi-tasker

I'm busy multi-tasking right now.  Unfortunately I've maxed out on tasks and today's blog post has gotten pushed down the list.  Proper blog post to come tonight (will be writing while watching Bachelor Pad)!

lonny favs

I was finally able to go through the August/September issue of Lonny cover to cover last night and pulled a few of my favorite images.  Highlights for me were Rachel Ashwell's London home and Sarah Winslow's NYC pad.

I didn't really plan it, but all of the photos I pulled have a similar color scheme.  I guess I really am digging pale colors these days.  Enjoy these photos and have a look at the full issue for yourself using this link.  Have a wonderful weekend!

sneak peek: rue magazine

sneak peek of rue magazine spread
The first sneak peek of Rue Magazine is up on ShelterPop today!  For those of you who aren't familiar, Rue is a new online decorating magazine set to launch September 16.  I'm eagerly anticipating the premiere issue and have been following the progress through their Facebook page.  With a shrinking number of paper shelter mags, I am so thrilled to see more online magazines like Rue and Lonny.  Enjoy these sneak peek photos (loving the grey)!

inspiration: monochrome minimalism

stella mccartney fall 2010
I'm drawing a lot of inspiration these days from the monochrome black and tan looks for Fall.  Even though we're having typical hot, humid, swampy weather here in DC, I'm day-dreaming of building up my fall wardrobe with tons of camel-colored pieces, skinny black pants and new grey trousers to go with the all the grey sweaters in my closet.

Here's a collection of my favorite looks for the fall.

P.S.  This is a fashion trend that can easily be translated into home decor (think furniture, accessories and paint color) or an event or party theme (think decorations, color scheme, and dress).  Just a thought....

glam grey in house beautiful

Looks like the editors at House Beautiful were also feeling the love for grey this month.  They're featuring interior designer Andrew Raquet's Brookville, New York home in their September issue.

P.S.  Speaking of the HB September issue, I am absolutely in love with the all-lacquer paint spread!  The colors in the living room are awesome (and reminiscent of the color scheme from my old bedroom).  Enjoy these bonus pics!
