katie lee (joel)'s nyc pad is on the market

Sigh.  The former Mrs. Billy Joel has put her ah-mazing Nate Berkus-decorated West Village townhouse on the market and I'm $12.9 million too poor to buy it!

Seriously though, Katie Lee is exactly how I imagine myself if I had the guts to be an *ahem* gold digger wife of a much older and wealthy man.  There, I said it!  She has incredible taste in home decor and clothing, and that I really admire.  However, as a certain New York Times Magazine article pointed out, her talents in the kitchen and as a "lifestyle expert" seem to underwhelm her critics.  But kudos to her for continuing to try to break through that spun sugar ceiling.....

In the meantime, she's laughing all the way to the bank if she sells this place for a cool thirteen mill.    I do wonder if she'll miss this lovely home though- I certainly would!  I fell in love with this place when it was featured in the June/July 2008 issue of Domino magazine.  And I've tagged it as one of the inspiration homes for my own little apartment.

For now, I hope you'll all enjoy these photos as much as I do!

inspiration: masculine decor

My brother's house in Atlanta (Decatur, to be exact) needs a makeover.  Actually, like nearly every bachelor pad, it just needs to be decorated period.  I pulled a bunch of inspiration photos for his place and wanted to share them with you.  My vision for his 1950's ranch-style brick house is a cross between a lake house, surf shack and swinging bachelor pad.

Thom Filicia's NY lake home (featured in Domino magazine) comes the closest to my vision.  I hope you enjoy these photos!

domino team...assemble!

Breaking news from WWD's Nick Axelrod....
With The Wall Street Journal’s new Saturday lifestyle section said to be launching later this month, it’s safe to assume newly anointed editor Deborah Needleman has spent much of her summer sifting through résumés — and enlisting the help of Domino colleagues. In addition to Lauren Goodman (the onetime fashion director of Domino, who Needleman hired to consult on the section’s fashion coverage several weeks ago), the ex-Domino editor in chief has tapped Ruth Altchek, formerly Domino’s editorial projects director and features editor (and, most recently, a senior editor at Martha Stewart Living) to be news editor and her deputy on the section.
Hmmm, I just might have to look into a weekend subscription!   For more big names on the new WSJ team, check out WWD's coverage right here.

book worm

I have bookcases on the brain.  I bought a new Lack Bookcase from Ikea this weekend and have been working on styling it along with the smaller one in my bedroom.  These are just a few of the photos inspiring my evening work these days.
