hump day treat

My friend Sarah says, "Macaroons are the new cupcake. They're all over NYC!" I think she may be right. Yesterday, as I was taking a quick work break and stumbled on this recipe for vanilla macaroons from Daniel Boulud on Elle Decor's website. I think i may have to add "macaroon making" to my growing list of post-Election Day activities. For now, I hope you'll test the recipe and let me know how they turn out. So what are you waiting for? tastemaker: aerin lauder part two

Happy Friday everyone! Now that the humidity has temporarily subsided in the DC area, I can't stop thinking about spending all of my time outside. I wish I could say I'll be jetting off to the Hamptons or some other fabulous coastal retreat this weekend, but I'll be kicking around DC with a long list of home-related errands. Of course I'll have to fit in some outdoor cocktailing....

Since I haven't made it to the beach yet this summer (where are my priorities!?), I've been looking through back issues of my favorite shelter mags for beachy inspiration. One of my all-time favorites comes from the July/August 2009 issue of Elle Decor. Our very own tastemaker feature girl, Aerin Lauder graced the cover and opened the doors to her gorgeous homes in Manhattan and East Hampton.

tastemaker: aerin lauder part one

The New York Times's T Magazine is running a feature by Sandra Ballentine on the uber stylish Aerin Lauder, Senior VP and Creative Director of Estee Lauder, the company her grandmother founded. Aerin has amazing personal style and wonderful taste as you can see from some of her picks featured below. What I really love is how Lauder describes her "off duty" style. Jeans, a crisp white shirt and a Cartier tank watch. She's a woman after my own heart!

shades of grey

The first thing I plan to do when I move into my new condo is to paint the walls - all of them. It's a big project, but I'm up for it. It certainly helps that I already know which colors I'll be using because they're the same colors I'm using in my current townhouse, Benjamin Moore's Pale Smoke and Cliffside Grey.

Since I love these colors so much, I thought I'd write an ode to grey paint today. Here's a selection of my favorite images of grey walls. I've listed the colors when they were available, but if you know colors for the missing rooms I haven't covered, please send them along. Enjoy!
